Prompts will display in the order they are created by default. If you have multiple prompts tied to a session or facility, they will also display on the Checkout screen in the order they are listed on the Prompts screen. This article will show you how to change the order of how your prompts display.
Important Notes
- Prompts will be grouped on the Checkout screen based on the Follows User option selected when creating the prompt.
- They will be grouped in the following order:
- Prompts set up as Once per Cart
- Prompts set up as Once per User
- Prompts set up as Once per Line Item
- They will be grouped in the following order:
Instructions
- Navigate to the Configuration tab, select Checkout Settings, and then Prompts
- Use the arrows to drag and drop prompts into the desired order
- The new order will automatically apply to the Prompts list
- The Checkout screen will also reflect the new order of prompts
-
Note: In the example above, you can see that the Donation prompt appears last even though it is set as the 2nd prompt in the list on step 3. This is because it is set as Once Per Line Item, while the other prompts are set as Once Per User. Prompts are always grouped in the following order in checkout which will override the order you set in the Prompts list: Once per Cart, Once per User, Once per Line Item.

I am not seeing the connection between Steps 3 and Steps 4 in the tutorial above. The questions in Step 4 don't seem to match up with the order of prompts listed in Step 3. Can someone explain as we are trying to figure out how to order our prompts and were excited to find this tutorial, but then disappointed because it doesn't make sense.
Also, can you speak to ordering prompts if you have more than one category? For instance, we have three categories so do we have to first sort or filter by the one category we are trying to organize prompts for?
Hi Kaela,
Thanks for the feedback! The screenshot on step 4 has been updated to show how the prompts will display on the Checkout screen. These instructions apply to organizing the entire Prompts screen so you will not need to first filter by category in order to change the order.
Thank you so much for revising this tutorial and answering my question about the impact of categories on prompt organization. We really appreciate it!
We have over 100 prompts, is there a way to move a prompt from the 2nd page to the 1st page on the prompts list?
Hi Scott,
At this time you are not able to move a prompt from one page to another if you have over 100 prompts. Feature requests can be submitted to our product team here: https://www.civicrec.civicplus.help/hc/en-us/community/topics/115000377233-Configuration-Feature-Requests
